Las Vegas Metro Police Officer Arrested for Trafficking Cannabis

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has arrested Officer Jesus Najera for trafficking cannabis after a month-long investigation.

The investigation was conducted after some information was received a few months ago that Officer Jesus Najera, 34, may have been involved with the unlawful production, transportation, and sale of cannabis.

During the investigation, detectives gathered intel that linked his brother-in-law, Eduardo Garcia, 46, to the participation in this illegal operation.

It is unclear who they were selling the cannabis to, but it is safe to assume it was product being funneled into the black market.

Jesus Najera is being charged with the following: Three counts of conspiracy to violate the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act, trafficking of THC, trafficking of marijuana, and possession of cocaine, police said.

Eduardo Garcia is being charged with the following: Conspiracy to violate the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act, trafficking of THC, trafficking of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, sale of marijuana, and unlawful production of cannabis.

Jesus Najera was hired by Las Vegas Metro in 2016 and was assigned to Downtown Area Command, Tourist Safety Division. According to Transparent Nevada, he was compensated $117,126 per year in Total Pay & Benefits.
