Vaping Vs. Smoking Weed, Which Is Better For Your Health?

The term medical marijuana can over shadow some key points that are critical to your health.

Cannabis is one of the most healing plants ever grown on this earth. But are you using it in a way that can benefit you medicinally? Or are you possibly causing some issues in your body, that you are unaware, may be caused by you smoking marijuana?

If you are like me, you were introduced to marijuana by smoking it – joint, blunt, bowl or bong was usually my go to way of consuming. But the more I became educated about cannabis and its healing properties I began to understand that there were better ways to provide my body the healing benefits of this medicine.

The traditional ways of smoking cannabis via joints, blunt, bowl or bong create the combustion of marijuana that produces several known carcinogens and tar which can irritate the lungs and lead to chronic bronchitis. This may not affect everyone in the same way, but be warned, this is a serious issue for a lot of people.

On the bright side, there are many benefits to vaping marijuana. Not only is it better for your health, vaporizers convert over 46% of available THC into vapor, compared to the average marijuana joint converting less than 25% of THC. This requires a lower dose of smoking, making your cannabis last longer! Also, out of the available THC, vaping lets you absorb 95% of it within seconds of inhaling leaving you to take less puffs, and more shallow inhales.

In a 2010 study, 20 frequent cannabis users that had symptoms of respiratory issues showed that vaping weed for a month resulted in “meaningful improvements” in their lung health, overall minimizing respiratory complaints.

But one word of caution when purchasing a vaporizer. Vaporizers are not all the same. Many of these devices on the market are made in China with minimal regulations and oversight. Some of them containing glue or heavy metals which can be off-gassed at high temperatures and inhaled by the user.

With that being said, it is important to find a reputable manufacturer that uses quality parts. Stick to vape pens with ceramic or titanium heating elements, which are generally made with higher quality than those of steel, glass, or any kind of fiber wick system.

Staying informed is important to your health. Please share with your fellow smokers and pass on the awareness of a healthy cannabis lifestyle. Let’s keep our community educated!
